Oscar Wilde said
“Love is a misunderstanding between two fools.” However, not all misunderstandings
are lovely and positive. Sometimes they can make us be trapped in some situation,
like in marriage. What will you do if your couple misunderstands you? Your natural reaction perhaps is to blame others, rather
than accept responsibility. We used to think it was the other person’s fault if
he or she did not understand something or explain something properly. But in
marriage, we have to be responsible, try to avoid the misunderstandings and
learn from it.
We should accept 100% responsibility
for all misunderstandings in which we are involved. While there have been some
painful, costly and frustrating lessons, we have learned something from every
misunderstanding and it has made me a better communicator. If you choose to
accept 100% responsibility for all misunderstandings, something interesting
will happen. You will begin to see warnings signs that you have previously
overlooked. It may be the looks on your couple’s face, a comment they make or
something else that will give you pause to wonder if there is a potential
miscommunication brewing.
