Late last fall, Jason and I took our babymoon in Hawaii. We spent about 10 days and split our time between The Big Island and Maui. Hawaii is such a popular spot for honeymoons, anniversaries and babymoons (we met so many other couples on babymoons too!), so I wanted to share our trip and recommendations with you all in case you have a trip for yourself in the near future. :) Today’s post is all about our stay on The Big Island, next week I’ll tell you all about our stay on Maui.

Getting to Hawaii is a really easy from the West Coast (a 5-6 hour flight) – so it’s perfect if you only have a few days for your honeymoon. Live on the East Coast or Midwest? The flight’s a bit longer, but so worth it for a memorable honeymoon or anniversary trip! Hawaii is one of our favorite places to visit — the weather is perfect, you’re still in the US so you don’t have to worry about language, currency or passports….but most of all…. it’s just so relaxing and beautiful! More personal to us, we got engaged in Maui, so it will always be a special place to us. :)

I do love getting Trash the dress shoots submitted to me, ever since I did my own Trash the Dress back in 2010 I just love them. It really is a great way to get some more wear out of your wedding dress once you are married and instead of it hanging up collecting dust, you can get some pretty amazing photos out of it!

It has been so much fun to work with Steph. From the first time we met her during her engagement shoot, we could tell she was just waiting for permission to let her inner model out. During her wedding photos, Steph really came into her own and needed no encouragement to really strike a pose. I swear, the girl must have been watching Top Model for months – because she is like a seasoned pro. So when it came time to trash her dress, Steph really went for it. Mud, rivers, broken glass, dead deer – Steph was hard core.

Although we didn’t approach the shoot with a specific narrative, one seemed to develop organically throughout the day. As we were in a location that just oozed gothic romance, we began to think in terms of a soulful and tragic gothic love story that would make any Bronte proud.

Ange and Andy were married on the 15th of August at the Crucible Theatre & Lyceum Theatre with a reception at Silversmiths Restaurant and party at Revolucion De Cuba, Sheffield. ‘We looked at lots of different venues and none of them really interested us. We aren’t particularly ‘traditional’ people and we wanted somewhere that people would remember as different. Andy is a Drama teacher and we love the Sheffield Theatres, so when we found that they had a wedding license, we set our hearts on it. (Also, everyone knows The Crucible Theatre for the World Snooker Championships; it’s very cool to be able to tell them every year when it’s on telly “that’s where we got married!!” The Crucible staff were amazing, and made sure every detail was perfect and the day ran smoothly. We had 130 guests and it took about 4 months to plan.’

We met at University in 1999 and we were just friends. Our lives took different paths for a few years but we remained friends and stayed in contact. Then in 2010, we both went to a reunion, with our Uni friends, to London and we ended up getting together, over 10 years later! We have now been together for nearly 3 years.
